The following people are actively wanted by the West Haven Police Department.  We acknowledge and appreciate
that you, the public, help us on a daily basis.  If you have any information on the whereabouts of any of the people
listed here, we ask that you call us at 203-937-3900 at any time.  All warrants should be confirmed prior to serving.

Please help us by bringing these people to justice.  Your tips and identity will be held in the strictest confidence and your tips can remain anonymous. 

The WHPD is seeking the public's help in identifying the suspect who committed an armed robbery which occurred on 2/6/2010 at approximately 4PM at the Saw Mill News convenience store located at 319 York St.

A lone gunman entered the store and displayed a handgun.  The gunman ordered the clerk to handover the money from the cash register.  The clerk complied and was then ordered by the gunman to lie down in a backroom before he fled the scene.  The gunman left with an undisclosed amount of cash.  The clerk was not injured.

The gunman was described as a Hispanic male, medium complexion, unshaven, approximately 5'8-5'9 believed to be in his 30's-40's.  He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, sweatpants and white sneakers.  He displayed a large black semi-automatic weapon.

 ** Also, the WHPD is investigating an additional armed robbery which occurred today 2/12/2010 at approximately 1:25 PM.  The Detective Bureau is possibly linking the above individual to today's robbery as certain features match; however, it is not conclusive as of this time. (Awaiting photograph enhancement).

In this robbery, a gunman entered the Dream Hair Salon located at 697 Campbell Ave.  A light skinned black male, approximately 5'8, 170 lbs wearing a dark knit hat, black pants and a dark colored jacket entered the salon.  The suspect displayed a black/silver handgun and forced the four women located inside the salon into a back room before leaving with an unknown amount of cash.  None of the women were injured. 

The suspect then took car keys to a vehicle belonging to one of the victim's and fled in it.  Sgt. Martin Garcia stated the stolen vehicle is a 4 Door Silver/Gray Honda Accord bearing CT 244-XKR.  The suspect(s) in these two robberies is/are considered armed and dangerous.

Date of Birth: October 4, 1977

Charges: Assault, Threatening, Criminal Mischief, Narcotics and Failure to Appear Charges and warrants from several area towns.

Bond: over $200,000.00

Described as an white male, 5'3" tall, 150 lbs, shaved head with tattoos on his neck and arms.

  
 


The WHPD arrested Israel Amaro, a man who was wanted on warrants exceeding $100,000 and who the WHPD had spent days looking for.  The arrest came just before 1PM on 2/8/2010 following a tip from New Haven PD and an alert witness who had spotted Israel’s picture on a television broadcast.  The tipster flagged down Officer David Hancock and provided him with the last known direction of Amaro.  Members of the patrol division, including Officer Hancock and Officer Doug Bauman, searched the area and located him near his home on Mix Avenue.  Amaro attempted to flee, but was quickly apprehended by officers.
