What can I do if there is a barking dog issue in my neighborhood?
This is one of the most common complaints recieved by Animal Control. As the weather becomes nicer dog owners tend to let there pets outside longer then they would normally. As it is natural for a dog to to randomly bark at other dogs walking by, cars driving by and other things that might catch their attention its still the responsiblity of the dog owner to do what they can to prevent the issue from becoming a neighborhood nusiance. West Haven Animal Control Officers ask you to properly document the date and time of the barking dog and if possible provide audio and visiual evidence to an Animal Control Officer.
What can I do if I see a sick or injured animal?
Animal Control Officers will respond out to any sick or injured animal within the City limits.
What happens if there is wildlife in my attic or basement?
If you beleive there is wildlife in your home (squirell, racoon or other rodents) you need to contact a Pest Control of your choosing to recify your issue. Animal Control Officers are not equiped to climb in attic spaces, access areas behind walls or crevis of basments. A good rule of thumb is if the area the wildlife is occupping is not considered "living space" Animal Control will not be able to assist.
What if Wildlife is currently in "living space" of my home?
Eventhough Animal Control will not come out for Wildlife in "unlivable" parts of the home, if there is wildlife located within the living areas of the home (Kitchen, bedrooms, FINISHED basements for a few examples) Animal Control will respond to help assist.
There is a Coyote in my Neighborhood what can I do?
Coyotes are native wildlife to the Northeast. It might be concerning to see a coyote in a residental neighborhood but they are very common within the area. Animal Control Officers will advise you not to try and harm it or go near it. Coyotes are normally in the area because there is a food source. Making loud noises and supervising your pets while outside are all good preventive measures to take.
