Redemption of Animal

Was your dog lost or missing and taken into the West Haven Animal Shelter care? There is a Redemption fee of $15.00 (This cost covers service provided and food while animal is in our care.)

Quarantined Cost

Per Connecticut law 22-359 if your pet was involved in a bite incident there is a 10-day quarantine for observation purposes for the prevention of rabies. If your dog is up to date with rabies vaccine the quarantine can be done at home. If your pet is not up to date with rabies vaccine, then the quarantine has to be done at a licensed vet or animal shelter for observation and deterrence of rabies for 10 days. The West Haven Animal Shelter cost is $10.00 each day for the extend of the quarantine.

Veterinary Fees

Once your adoption is completed the animal you are adopting will be transported to our partnered Veterinary Hospital for Spay or Neutering. The cost of each is listed below. (* note all animals adopted for the West haven Animal Shelter are Spayed or Neutered prior to being released to adopter.)

Cat (Male $75.00) (Female $100.00)

Dog (Male $100)   (Female $125.00)

*Medication or other requirements are payable to the Veterinarian. *

Dog Licensing

All dogs shall be licensed on or before June 30th annually.

License fee for Spayed/Neutered dog $8.00

License fee for Un-spayed/Un-neutered dog $19.00

There is a $1.00 fee for each month your dog is not licensed after June 30th

Visit the West Haven Animal Shelter or West Haven City Hall to get your dog licensed.

Micro Chip Verification

West Haven Animal Shelter has a Pet Chip reader that can help identify information related to any lost or found animal that may be micro chipped. A quick scan of the animal can provide helpful information about who the animal belongs to and home address.
